Definition and Classification
Here is the twelfth week of studying of this course. I had to study on this Sunday. So, I have been exhausted because of my homework and test.
First of all, the teacher checked our name in the classroom. After finished checking, she reviewed Cause and Effect which is The Effect of Stress by asking about main idea each of paragraphs, and also discourse markers in the text. From this her reviews, I also knew that what is discourse markers. They made me understand what is clause and what is effect.
After we finished studying this content, we also had to learn new content which is Definition and Classification. Do you know exactly? what does it mean.
In textbooks, you are sure to meet unfamiliar technical words and their definitions. You will also find that writers use classification to divide general concepts into a number of different types. Identifying and understanding texts that contain definition and classification will help your academic reading.
I would like to show you some examples and explanations 
Phonetics is the study of the speech sounds used in human languages.

Matter is defined as anything that occupies space and has weight.

Is defined as = discourse marker
anything that occupies space and has weight = definition
Then, she gave us find the meaning of definition and classification from Cambridge Dictionary. Here are the meaning:
Definition : a statement that explains the meaning of a word or phrase Psychology is by definition an inexact science.
Classification : the act of process of dividing things into groups according to their type
Do you understand the system of classification used in ornithology?
Next, she showed us some common Definition and Classification Markers. She assigned us to find the meaning and make sentences by adding them too.
When we finished studying common Definition and Classification Markers, she gave us do the Skill Practice 1 by finding the technical term, highlighting discourse marker and its definition respectively.
From this exercise, it made me analyze the text as well because I also knew what is technical term including its definition too. I noticed discourse markers. Hence, They made me understand the text as well. However, I should practice reading more about the text related with classification and definition in order to be understand exactly.
After that, we started doing Skill practice 2 by reading each of paragraphs. Then, we has to circle the Classification Markers. Next, draw a diagram showing the classification.
I would like to show you about skill practice 2 that I had already done. 
When we finished doing this exercise, she gave write the diagrams on the whiteboard. I would like to show you about the photo which done by us.
Later, she told us to reread paragraphs 2-5 in Skill Practice 2 and highlight the definitions of the following terms which are on my hand out.
From this exercise, it made me know each of terms means by noticing discourse markers. However, I need to practice by reading more in order to perceive. Don't be reckless.
Finally, she assigned us read text 1 and we had to study in the afternoon of this day. Let's have enjoy meal together.

What did you get from this news? I also knew that people from different cultures interpret silence differently. If we will go another country, we should know about culture before we go there in order to be as the people in that country. It likes idiom that When in Rome, do as the Rome do.

What did you learn today?I started studying new lesson which is Definition and Classification.
What did you find easy?In my opinion, Finding the discourse markers is easy for me. Because I know these conjunction as well and I will learn as much as I can in order to understand and do in testing as well.
What did you find difficult?Personally, some words are difficult because they are unknown words.
What did you solve the problem?I tried to pay attention during the class and notice the discourse markers in order to know what does technical term mean.
What are your attitudes towards the lesson?Personally, this lesson is important in reading. Particularly, in academic reading because when we read about academic reading, we will see the technical terms which are quite hard. We can predict their meaning by noticing discourse markers. They will help us understand as well. Yet, you must have been better skill in reading before. If you haven't, you can't understand or read the text related with academic reading as well.
